u4gm How to Beat Areagne in PoE 2 Beginner Friendly Guide
In Path of Exile 2 you are going to bump into a few bosses that do not show up with a big flashy bar, and Areagne, The Forgotten Witch, is one of those that quietly ruins your day while you are just farming and thinking about PoE 2 Currency. At first glance she looks like another throwaway encounter, but if you walk in half asleep she will delete a mid‑tier character in a couple of hits. She chains weird elemental skills, switches tempo a lot, and punishes people who try to face tank everything like it is a normal pack.
Finding The Witch
You run into her in Grelwood, in roughly the same kind of spot where you would expect Brambleghast to sit. Head all the way west until you are hugging the riverbank, then you will see this crooked little witch hut that just screams “bad idea”. Before you wander in, clear every werewolf patrolling outside; it is boring, but you really do not want stray adds sprinting in while you are frozen in place. When the yard is clean, step into the hut and you will see a woman crouched in the back like an NPC. Walk close, she shrieks, disappears on the spot, and that is your sign to turn around and get back outside fast.
How The Fight Plays Out
The real fight happens in the open space right in front of the hovel, which is actually great because you get room to move instead of fighting in a doorway. As soon as you cross the threshold she phases back in and starts casting. She looks like she should be all about fire, but most of her real damage comes from cold, and that throws a lot of players off. Her Icy Breath hits in a pretty wide lane, does a big chunk of cold damage, and will freeze you if your res is low or you get clipped twice. On top of that she scatters Ground Sigils that pulse with frost damage, so if you stand still on one you watch your health slowly melt away while you are wondering what hit you. Sometimes she winds up a huge expanding ring of flame on the ground; once you see that circle, just drop what you are doing and step out because the follow‑up blast is brutal.
Positioning And Builds
Areagne likes to blink or teleport to close gaps, so melee builds feel her pressure more than anyone else. If you are playing a bow, spell slinger or any other ranged setup, the fight feels a lot more forgiving because you can keep backing off and dragging her around the yard. The key is to treat it like a dance rather than a slugfest: stay moving, sidestep the breath, weave between sigils, and only commit to damage when the ground is clear. Chugging flasks and hoping your armour carries you usually ends with another death screen, especially if your cold res is not capped. This encounter is a neat early check on whether your build can handle mechanics instead of just leaning on raw DPS.
Loot, Value And Why Bother
Once she finally drops, you are not walking away with some crazy unique every time, but the rewards are still worth the detour. You will see basic stuff like Rope Cuffs, odd rares and the usual Scrolls of Wisdom, but the big reason people farm her is the Uncut Support Gem. Early on, that gem feels like free power or free trading potential, and it can be a smart way to test how your build scales support links without burning all your orbs. If you do not need it for your own setup, you can flip it for poe2 cheap divine value and use that to plug holes in your gear or fund your next experiment with a different skill tree route.
